Building Village & Township Economies

Building Village & Township Economies

With its history of racial oppression and class exploitation, South Africa finds itself in a situation of an economic system biased towards and against certain classes and races. The result is a skewed situation in which nearly all economic actives are centered around the cities and suburbs to an almost total exclusion of villages and townships where the majority of the people live. The only solution is to create a large pool of successful businesses located in townships and villages where the majority of the South African population lives. Recent government initiatives to build string and dynamic rural and township economies must be welcome and embraced.

It is against this background that building vigorous township and village economies becomes a national imperative. Bringing villages and townships into the mainstream of the economy is a pre-condition for success in South Africa today. One way of achieving this noble objective is changing the current mindset among residents of townships and villages of spending nearly all their money outside of their places of abode. An aggressive Buy Township and Buy Village Campaign will go a long way in changing the mindset and empowering village and township small & medium enterprises in villages and townships.
