Clean & Green Campaign
Littering is a failure of consciousness and can be corrected by raising the consciousness of the litterer. Children and youth in particular must be taught that littering is an anti-social behavior that needs to be stamped out. Keeping South Africa clean should be a priority of every citizen. South Africa is not one of the cleanest countries on the continent6 and in the world. TMM has therefore embarked on a campaign to keep South Africa clean. The campaign will be driven by the Thuma Mina Youth Brigades that are being formed all over the country. Indeed, littering is common in townships and villages while it virtually absent in surbubia.
Turning South Africa green is the strategic objective of our campaign in an endeavour to galvanize every citizen to participate in creating greener country. Johannesburg is the world’s largest man made forest and there is no reason why the whole country cannot emulate it. It is particularly worrying that our townships and villages are virtually tree-less. While every house in the suburbs have trees, virtually every house in townships and villages are devoid of trees. A national, comprehensive tree-planting campaign, led by the Youth Brigade should permanently change the national landscape.
